Role Overview

We are seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of our cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices. This pivotal role requires deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and the ability to set a high technical bar across the engineering organization. As a senior leader on our engineering team, you will drive critical initiatives, own product milestones, and ensure our infrastructure meets the highest standards of scalability, reliability, and security. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a startup environment, takes ownership, and is excited to bring new ideas to life from 0 to 1.

What You’ll Do

• DevOps Leadership: Design, implement, and maintain robust DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automation, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like AWS CDK, ensuring scalability and reliability for mission-critical systems.

• Strategic Ownership: Take ownership of specific product lines, milestones, or feature sets and drive them forward with minimal supervision, ensuring delivery of high-impact solutions end-to-end.

• Cloud Infrastructure Expertise: Develop and manage infrastructure that efficiently supports cloud-based systems and services, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility.

• Bulk Data Management: Oversee bulk data ingestion and management processes into AWS services, ensuring performance, scalability, and compliance.

• IoT Infrastructure Development: Lead efforts to deploy, maintain, and optimize infrastructure that supports IoT devices integrated into customer systems.

• Advanced Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level troubleshooting and debugging for complex cloud systems, ensuring high uptime and reliability.

• Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize system performance to deliver responsive and reliable applications interfacing with time series data and multimedia streams.

• Data Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce strict data security measures, adhering to industry standards and regulations.

• Mentorship and Hiring: Contribute to hiring efforts by setting a high technical bar, leading interviews, and mentoring junior engineers to foster technical excellence.

What Will Make You Successful

• Extensive DevOps and Cloud Infrastructure Experience: 6-10+ years of experience as a Senior DevOps Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, or equivalent role.

• Proven Technical Expertise: Demonstrated ability in architecting, implementing, and optimizing secure, reliable, and highly available systems, with a strong focus on AWS.

• Technical Excellence: Embodies a commitment to technical excellence, setting a high bar for code quality, scalability, and design decisions.

• Ownership Mentality: Demonstrates a startup mentality, taking full ownership of initiatives and driving them forward independently with a strong work ethic and output orientation.

• 0-to-1 Initiative: Excited to own and drive new initiatives from inception to implementation, building impactful products with minimal supervision.

• Automation Expertise: Strong background in designing and managing automated pipelines, monitoring systems, and deployment processes.

• Problem Solving: Exhibits exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, proactively identifying blockers and implementing effective solutions to maintain project momentum.

• Collaboration and Communication: Leads projects effectively while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring alignment and successful execution.

Bonus Points

• Serverless Technologies: 4+ years of experience working with serverless architectures in AWS or another cloud provider.

• Big Data Expertise: Familiarity with processing and analyzing large datasets using big data technologies.

• Machine Learning: Experience applying machine learning techniques to extract insights from live or historical data.

• Aviation Knowledge: Understanding of aviation industry-specific challenges and data needs.

This is a hybrid role and requires working from our San Carlos, CA office at least three days a week, with the option to work remotely the remaining days.
