About The Role

We are looking for an Imaging Scientist to advance the core sensing and perception capabilities at the heart of our kiosks platform. You will lead research and development across image processing, optical system characterization, depth sensing, and face tracking, turning rigorous scientific work into reliable, production-grade improvements to our kiosks. This role involves close collaboration with our R&D software & hardware teams.

Note: This is a full-time, onsite role based in Charlestown and Boston's North End. We work together five days a week to support rapid prototyping and cross-functional collaboration.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead research and development on Eyebot's image acquisition and processing pipeline, including depth camera integration, image sensor characterization, and optical alignment.
  • Design and implement algorithms for face tracking, gaze estimation, and subject detection that perform robustly in real-world, uncontrolled environments.
  • Develop and maintain rigorous calibration methodologies for imaging systems, ensuring consistency and accuracy across kiosk units.
  • Build benchmarking frameworks and performance metrics to validate imaging, detection, and measurement pipelines.
  • Run structured experiments to identify sources of variation, characterize failure modes, and improve system robustness.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to translate research findings into deployable, production-ready code.
  • Document methods, results, and calibration procedures to support reproducibility and regulatory requirements.

What We're Looking For:

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of post-bachelor's research or industry experience (postdoctoral experience may be included).
  • Deep expertise in image processing, computer vision, or computational imaging.
  • Hands-on experience with camera systems, depth sensors (structured light, time-of-flight, stereo), or optical hardware.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar, with experience applying them to imaging or perception problems.
  • Hands on Experience building, designing, and running rigorous experiments, including statistical analysis and benchmarking.
  • Familiarity with embedded platforms (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, or similar) for real-time imaging applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in optics, optical calibration, or photometric measurement.
  • Experience with face detection, landmark estimation, or gaze tracking systems.
  • Familiarity with medical device development and the documentation standards it requires.
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques to real-world perception problems.

Personality:

  • You are energized by fast-paced environments and excited to grow with a startup that is scaling quickly.
  • You take ownership of your work and care deeply about quality.
  • You hold yourself and your teammates to a high bar.
  • You follow through on commitments and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • You bring a low ego, collaborative mindset. You are easy to work with, open to feedback, and able to keep perspective even when things don't go according to plan.

What we offer:

  • Starting target salary in the range of $120,000 to $140,000, along with meaningful equity.
  • Flexible work schedule with unlimited PTO
  • A culture where every idea is welcome, no matter how out there it sounds — that’s how Eyebot got started
  • Full health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Commuter support and wellness benefits
  • A collaborative office environment in Charlestown or Boston’s North End, with regular team lunches and a great waterfront location
  • The chance to build products that improve lives and redefine how vision care is delivered
