About Eyebot

Eyebot is an outcome-focused technology company on a mission to make vision care accessible to everyone, equally. Headquartered in Boston’s North End and backed by top investors and the National Science Foundation, our vision test kiosk is reshaping how vision care is delivered.

If you are passionate about solving big problems and building the future of vision care, we would love to hear from you.

About The Role

We are looking for a hands-on Mechatronics Engineer to help us push the physical and electronic limits of our kiosk platform. You will own the intersection of mechanical design, embedded electronics, and sensor integration, translating engineering requirements into reliable, manufacturable hardware. This role sits at the heart of our product development work and involves close collaboration with our software and hardware R&D teams.

Note: This is a full-time, onsite role based in Charlestown and Boston’s North End. We work together five days a week to support rapid prototyping and cross-functional collaboration.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, prototype, and iterate on the electromechanical systems that power Eyebot's kiosk, including actuation, motion control, and sensor integration.
  • Own the integration of depth cameras, image sensors, and optical components into the kiosk hardware stack, ensuring precision alignment and repeatable performance.
  • Build and validate test rigs and physical experimental setups to characterize system behavior across real-world operating conditions.
  • Develop and maintain calibration procedures for sensors and electromechanical assemblies to ensure measurement accuracy across kiosk units.
  • Collaborate with software and R&D engineers to define hardware interfaces, sensor data pipelines, and embedded system requirements.
  • Support the transition from prototype to production-ready designs, including DFM review, tolerance analysis, and vendor coordination.
  • Document design decisions, test results, and assembly procedures with the rigor required for a regulated medical device environment.
  • Identify failure modes and drive root-cause investigations across mechanical, electrical, and sensor subsystems.

What We're Looking For:

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of post-bachelor's experience in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating sensors, actuators, and embedded control systems into physical products.
  • Hands-on proficiency with fabrication and prototyping tools including 3D printers, laser cutters, and machine shop equipment.
  • Experience with camera systems, image sensors, or optical hardware integration.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux platforms (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, or similar) for hardware bring-up and testing.
  • Comfort working across mechanical CAD (Onshape, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) and basic electrical schematics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with medical device development and compliance.
  • Background in precision mechanisms, optical alignment, or instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, and DFM practices.
  • Exposure to face tracking systems, depth sensing technologies, or structured light systems.

Personality

  • You are energized by fast-paced environments and excited to grow with a startup that is scaling quickly.
  • You take ownership of your work and care deeply about quality.
  • You hold yourself and your teammates to a high bar.
  • You follow through on commitments and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • You bring a low ego, collaborative mindset. You are easy to work with, open to feedback, and able to keep perspective even when things don't go according to plan.

What we offer:

  • Starting target salary in the range of $120,000 to $140,000, along with meaningful equity.
  • Flexible work schedule with unlimited PTO
  • A culture where every idea is welcome, no matter how out there it sounds — that’s how Eyebot got started
  • Full health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Commuter support and wellness benefits
  • A collaborative office environment in Boston’s North End, with regular team lunches and a great waterfront location
  • The chance to build products that improve lives and redefine how vision care is delivered
