Job Overview
Mytra’s Systems Engineering team is seeking a freelance, Technical Writer to join our documentation team on a contract basis. The Systems Engineering team provides cross-functional leadership and engineering to validate and bridge the work of multiple disciplines across the entire organization.
As a Technical Writer within this unique, intersectional team, you will be documenting the direction and impact of our cutting edge design and closing technical and process gaps. You will closely collaborate with engineers to create clear, accurate technical documentation for internal and external users of our industrial robotics systems.
This role is a full-time contract position, located on-site at our Brisbane, CA headquarters.
Expected compensation: 40.00 USD Per Hour. Freelance contractor must have an LLC or equivalent business entity.
Responsibilities
- Create, edit, and maintain a wide range of technical documentation, including installation manuals, standard operating procedures, maintenance guides, training materials, and troubleshooting knowledge base content.
- Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts across the organization to gather technical information.
- Communicate complex, technical topics to both technical and non-technical internal and external audiences.
- Incorporate technical illustrations, diagrams, and photographs into documentation.
- Review and edit technical content for accuracy, consistency, and readability.
- Maintain documentation throughout product lifecycles and update as systems evolve.
- Understand the safety implications of process documentation.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in technical writing, preferably in a manufacturing, engineering, or robotics-related environment.
- Completion of at least one course or certification on basic electrical engineering.
- Experience with electrical and mechanical systems, including understanding and incorporating features of CAD drawings, electrical schematics, and other technical assets into clear, written instructional material.
- Ability to maintain an organized, detail-oriented standard while balancing multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with industry-standard authoring and publishing tools, such as content management systems (Confluence, Notion) and illustration tools (Adobe Creative Suite).
- Understanding of technical documentation best practices, with a passion for accurate, accessible, and user-centric content.
- Collaborative, dynamic approach to working with technical teams in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Familiarity with Markdown/HTML/XML languages used as documentation-as-code publishing (MKDocs, Sphinx) is a plus.
