At Parallel Bio, we are leveraging the human immune system to unlock safer, more effective drugs. We believe immunotherapies are the future of medicine, but their discovery is hindered by outdated models that fail to capture the complexity of the human immune system.
Our platform overcomes these challenges by combining best-in-class human immune organoids with massive scale and advanced computational methods, including AI and machine learning. This allows us to generate unprecedented, population-scale insights into human health and disease.
We can rapidly discover new drugs that we know will work in patients from the start and understand how they will perform across an entire population—something not possible with today's technology. This knowledge will allow us to engineer therapies that will work for as many people as possible, ensuring a safe and effective cure for everyone.
We are a fast-paced, venture-backed company at a pivotal moment of growth. Join us on our journey as we create new tools to push the boundaries of what is possible.
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Research Associate to join our Vienna team. In this role, you will drive hands-on experimentation in stem cell biology and organoid systems while playing a crucial role in maintaining efficient lab operations. This is an opportunity to execute rigorous research, improve protocols, and foster a collaborative scientific environment.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Experimentation
Execute Experiments: Conduct hands-on experimentation in tissue culture, stem cell biology, and cutting-edge organoid systems to support internal research.
Method Development: Improve organoid longevity and functionality by designing new protocols and assays.
Documentation: Meticulously report findings and maintain clear records in electronic lab journals.
Lab Operations & Management
Operational Support: Proactively support day-to-day Vienna lab operations, including inventory management, reagent ordering and handling invoices.
Vendor Relations: Establish and maintain relationships with vendors for lab consumables.
Workflow Optimization: Establish protocols and workflows to ensure efficient and rigorous research standards.
Collaboration & Communication
Knowledge Sharing: Share expertise with colleagues/junior researchers and present findings in internal oral presentations.
Active Participation: Speak up in group meetings to ensure healthy scientific discourse and foster collaborative relationships across teams and disciplines.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
Education: MSc in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering or a related field.
Cell Culture: Strong preference for experience with aseptic human stem cell (iPSC, ESC) culture; otherwise, at least one year of tissue culture experience with excellent aseptic technique is required.
Technical Skills: Proven experience carrying out biological assays (e.g., ELISA, (q)PCR, and immune cell characterization by flow cytometry). Knowledge of immunology is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
Organization: Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail. Familiarity with laboratory information systems or electronic lab notebooks is essential.
Collaboration: A team player who is quick to jump in where needed and comfortable collaborating across disciplines.
Communication: Excellent command of English (our working language) with a deep desire to learn from others in a cross-functional team. German language skills are nice-to-have.
Additional Requirements
This role requires weekend work on a rotating basis to maintain cell cultures and ensure experimental continuity.
Your compensation package will include a minimum base salary of €40,000 annually, based on a full-time engagement. The final amount will be determined based on experience and qualifications. This is a full-time position with no overtime compensation; the agreed salary covers all working hours. Flexible work arrangements may also be possible to support work-life balance.
