About Treeswift

Treeswift is revolutionizing decision-making for critical energy infrastructure in the face of rising threats like severe storms and wildfires.

After cutting our teeth developing AI models for forests in the timber sector, we are growing rapidly in the utility sector. In the U.S. alone, hundreds of thousands of miles of transmission lines and millions of miles of distribution lines need to be monitored and managed to reduce hazards, such as encroaching vegetation, that can cause outages or fires. With the rapid growth of renewable energy this infrastructure footprint is expected to more than double in the coming years creating more assets to defend than ever before.

Treeswift’s mission is to deliver effective scalable technology to manage large-scale distributed infrastructure, starting with managing the risks posed by vegetation surrounding these assets. We do so by innovating across the technical stack. LiDAR and imagery data is collected by our sensor packs mounted on backpacks and vehicles to seamlessly integrate into customer operations. We then leverage AI (i.e. computer vision, etc…) to transform this data into actionable insights delivered to decision-makers in our software platform.

We are early in our journey and focused on finding ground truth by working closely with our

customers and using this understanding to deliver real value to our customers. To tackle this

challenge we have brought together mission-driven robotics experts from top academic

institutions and professionals with deep industry experience in enterprise software development. We hope you’ll join us.

About The Role

You are a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer. You will:

  • Develop new features and use cases in our web platform in close partnership with early adopters. We launched our web platform last fall and have only scratched the surface of what’s possible using our underlying data and AI foundation. Beyond our core offering in vegetation management we have opportunities to extend into construction planning, asset inspections, work planning, work management, and disaster response. In this role you will both stand-up entire new workflows from scratch, as well as iterate and improve on the existing foundation. You will be able to partner closely with some of the largest utilities in the country as early design partners.
  • Help us scale. We are moving quickly in terms of new workflow development after launching our web platform last fall. We are approaching a point where we want to invest in introducing the right-level of tools and processes to keep moving quickly. This is an ideal role for you if you are excited to work on greenfield scope, but also enjoy standing up best practices (i.e. CI/CD processes and tooling) to help a small software engineering organization continue to grow effectively.
  • Stay curious, collaborative and customer-focused. You will join a small team that takes on challenges across disciplines from hardware engineering, to machine learning, software engineering and coordinating large data collections in the field. We take a lot of pride in turning this technical depth into a cohesive easy-to-use product with value generation for the customer at the center. As our second full stack software engineering hire you will be a big part of setting an engineering culture that makes Treeswift an exciting place to work.
  • Be an owner at Treeswift; make our company better in whatever form that takes. Whether you’re a board game maestro, former backcountry fire fighter or visual artist (all real examples from our current team) we are sure you will bring hidden talents that contribute to Treeswifts’ success and we can’t wait to learn what those are.

This is a full-time, hybrid (2-3 day a week in person) role, based out of our NYC office.

Required Skills

  • You have Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or other similar degree.
  • 4+ years of full-stack software development experience.
  • You have built web applications in a commercial context, both in early stage fast-moving settings and at larger user scales with meaningful reliability and security requirements.
  • Proficiency with Typescript, Python and React. Experience with User Auth, WebGL and AWS is a plus.
  • You are excited to own end-to-end feature development independently, are a fan of front-end work and motivated to deliver a high-quality UI/UX. You are not afraid to pick up new skills or interact across the technical stack to do so.
  • You are prepared to contribute to early decisions around our tooling and architecture. You are comfortable standing up CI/CD processes/tooling from scratch.
  • You are excited about collaborating across disciplines and upskilling others to contribute.
  • Experience with geospatial data and imagery data is a plus.

What We Value

  • Mission first. We value team members who are focused on working towards the best outcomes for the customer and the business.
  • Truth seeking. We work closely with our customers and seek to constantly get closer to the ground truth. We aren’t afraid to learn we were wrong in the process and adapt our work accordingly.
  • Owners mindset. If you see an opportunity for improvement, run with it. We believe that good ideas can come from anywhere, no matter your role.

  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Life insurance package and disability coverage
  • Stock options
